The phrase can describe several very different arrangements.

Can a traditional publisher publish my book for free?

A genuine traditional publisher normally does not charge an author to evaluate, edit, design, print and commercially publish an accepted manuscript. The publisher invests its own funds and recovers its investment from book sales.

However, traditional publishing is selective. Submission does not guarantee acceptance, and the publisher may acquire specified publishing rights under a contract.

Can an Indian author publish a book online for free?

A different ISBN is ordinarily required for each separately published edition or format for which an ISBN is used. An ebook, paperback and hardcover should not normally share one ISBN.
