Copyright generally arises when an original work is created and recorded. Formal registration may provide additional evidence, but authors should also retain dated drafts and submit only through legitimate channels.

Many publishers permit simultaneous submissions, while others request exclusivity. Always follow each publisher's stated submission guidelines.

Response periods vary from several weeks to several months depending on submission volume, editorial schedules and the level of review involved.
