Grants and Fellowships for Writers
A curated and searchable guide to literary funding, professional-development support, translation grants, emergency assistance and selected fellowship programmes for writers, translators and literary practitioners.
Some opportunities fund the writer, not the finished book.
Grants and fellowships may provide time, research support, professional development, translation funding, travel assistance or emergency relief. Eligibility is often narrow, and every applicant should verify the current round directly with the official organisation.

How to approach a grant application
Strong applications are specific, eligible, realistic and written for the actual fund.
Begin with eligibility
Confirm nationality, residence, career stage, publication history, language, age and whether nomination is required.
Define the outcome
Explain what the funding will make possible, why it matters now and what will change by the end of the grant period.
Build a credible budget
Connect every requested cost to the plan and exclude unsupported or ineligible expenses.
Common application documents
Not every programme requests all of these. Submit only what the current guidelines require.
Funding scams and false offers
Verify every opportunity through the organisation’s official domain. Be cautious of unsolicited awards, guaranteed funding, release fees, requests for passwords or banking credentials, and unofficial email addresses.
Please verify every opportunity before applying
