A Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announcement dated 8 September 2026 scheduled the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony for 22 September at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. It said future editions would be held in different states and cities.

The announcement identifies the awards as recognising films from 2024. Among the announced leading-acting honourees were Mammootty for Bramayugam, Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion and Yami Gautam for Article 370.

This brief summarises that advance announcement. It does not claim on-the-ground reporting from the ceremony. The National Film Awards cover Indian cinema across languages, beyond Hindi films alone.
